How to install MPEG-2 decode on raspbmc?
Hi All,

I have tried a number of different things but was hoping that someone on here would be able to help me Smile

I am using raspbmc on the pi for xbmc and want to play .iso file so I believe that I need the new MPEG-2

http://www.raspberrypi.com/mpeg-2-license-key/

I have tried to get my licence key, from the terminal as it auto boots into raspbmc, please could someone give a step by step walkthrough on how I get to the terminal within raspbmc, steps that I need to take to get the licence key and how to enter the new key once I have received it and active the MPEG-2 features.

Kind Regards

You will need to log into the Pi using SSH (using a program like Putty) and enter this command (from the store page http://www.raspberrypi.com/mpeg-2-license-key/ )

cat /proc/cpuinfo

which will give you the serial number to purchase the key.

and then put the licence in the config.txt file as it says here

Can the current RC4 play ISO files even with an MPEG license? I don't think it can.

AFAIK it needs omxplayer.cpp to be rebuilt with DVD/BD support enabled.

It will work with VOB straight away. To make it work with ISO you'll have to either wait for another release of RaspBMC or make the changes and compile your own.

Sorry to 'jump on' here, but when you (alexh) say "It will work with VOB straight away.", do you mean it will work straight away, once you have a license?
I'm not familiar with formats, and I tried to play a vob last night and got audio but no image. Does this mean that buying a license will give me the image too?
Thanks Smile

Thanks, that was the bit I didn't know. Looks like for the price of it the license is worth getting 'just in case' anyway Smile
